01/13/2005: "Day Off"

I am unreasonably glad to have today off. Just being able to sleep until I feel like getting up is heaven.

People think it’s weird that I’ve structured my work week so that instead of having the weekend off, my days off are usually one weekday and one weekend day. Also I almost never work five days in a row. I’ve found that I do better and my job feels less stressful if I split up my week into 3 and 2, or 4 and 1, ANYTHING but 5 days straight! (How do people do that?!)

Having a weekday off is great! I highly recommend it if you can swing it. It’s the perfect “errands and personal appointments” day because most people are at work.

I went to the mall last Saturday with a friend for lunch and shopping. As we walked around I kept thinking “Man, where did all these people come from?” I thought it was strange that it was so crowded. I mean, isn’t January supposed to be a slow time? Then I remembered that it was Saturday. I couldn’t remember the last time I had been out shopping on a weekend. A-ha. And that’s why I love a weekday off – no crowds.
