05/08/2005: "Mother’s Day"

In honor of Mother’s Day, here’s a link to the “Top 8 Troubled Mothers in Literature”

courtesy of my new daily read, Verbsap at http://www.verbsap.com/.

I’m very grateful that I ended up with such a good mother – kind, smart, patient, tolerant. It’s of the many advantages I’ve been lucky enough to have in my life – wonderful parents, supportive friends, a good education, and some really good teachers. Sometimes you realize that God has been so good to you that you really don’t have any right to complain about anything.

I’ve tried to be a good mom like mine is, but I’m just not as good at it as she is. But I guess if your kids make it to 21 without getting killed or wrecking their life for good, then you’ve succeeded. And at least my daughter, who turns 22 today, seems to have survived having me as a parent. Despite my lack of maternal skills, she’s turned out great – caring, loyal, independent, thoughtful.

Happy Mother’s Day everyone.

Call your mom. Seriously, do it now.
