"Flowers for My Beloved" published!

My latest story to be published is now available.

It's called "Flowers for My Beloved" and is in the debut issue of The Literary Bone.

Sadly, the magazine is not free.

However, you can purchase it through Lulu.
Just $2.06 for a pdf download version
9.99 for a print version

This is another story about the Kedru, a species I have written about before. Don't worry though, it's a stand-alone story. You don't have to read the others to understand this one.

This story is a little different in that it has a fantasy feel, instead of a scifi one, because it takes place on a world that doesn't have space travel and isn't aware of other sentient species.

"Flowers for My Beloved" tells the story of Isabeau who is mentioned in "The Choosing."

Previous Kedru stories.
"The Choosing" which was published in The Sword Review
"Verid" also published in The Sword Review
"Young Ones" which was published in Ray Gun Revival

I'm Rich!

Well, not really. But I did just receive my first royalty check, which is WAY cool.

It makes me feel like a "real writer." I don’t even mind that the check will barely buy me lunch.

Want to make sure my royalty check is bigger next year?

Go buy a copy (or two or more) of Distant Passages

$13.99 + S/H – Click here to buy!

It's chockfull of great speculative fiction and poetry.

Don't believe me?

Here's what you'll get:
"And on the Seventh Day" by Marsheila Rockwell,
"Beautiful Dreamer" by Edward McKeown,
"The Last Hurrah" by L. S. King,

Vote for ME!

Wow! I just found out that I've been nominated in the Preditors & Editors Reader's Poll under "magazine/e-zine editor". How cool is that?!?

I could never compete with Bill, who is currently second in the standings, but it feels great to be in such accomplished company.

Of course, if you haven't voted for your favorite editor yet and you want to vote for me…well, that would just be fabulous beyond words.

Voting closes midnight TONIGHT (January 14) (GMT).

Vote for DKA!

It's that time!

Time to vote for your favorites in the yearly Preditors and Editors Readers Poll.

I'm of course hoping your favorites include DKA, and authors and artists published in DKA, Sword Review, Ray Gun Revival, or Haruah. But vote for whoever you want, no one will know.

There are a bunch of categories and you can only vote once in each category. If you don't see your favorite listed, you can just write it in (thus nominating it and putting it in the running).

Voting is open until January 14th ONLY. So make your voice heard before then. ;)

For the current standings, go here

Thanks.

Chex Mix Epiphany

So, today I'm making Chex Mix,* cutting up the butter into small cubes (even though the recipe doesn't say to do so) because I know that the butter will melt faster that way, and it hits me that people are the same way – that when we are separated from each other, we melt down much faster. But if we're in a solid, connected block, we melt slow.

Huh.

Funny the thoughts that come to me when I'm cooking. Maybe I should cook more often. ;)

*Yeah sure, I know you can buy Chex Mix pre-made in a bag. But it's even yummier homemade. And if you can get it while it's warm and toasty, straight from the oven – that is the best!

New Story Published - "The Author"

My latest publication "The Author" is now available at Long Story Short.

I hope you can pop over and take a look. It's short, under 1000 words, and kind of written for us writers. ;)

Let me know what you think.

Thanks.

Contest Win

I've been too busy to blog but I have to take a moment to share a bit of good news.

Just before the new year I got word that I won John Kuhn's Twist Ending Contest.

Yeah me! What a great way to start the new year.

For the announcement of my win go to John's new blog.

The link for the entries and original contest announcement seems to be broken but I will post it if I can find it.

Happy new year everyone.
